The
entire family of ichneumon wasps are parasites in their larval
stage. The short-tailed ichneumon lays its eggs in the body of a
caterpillar. Sometimes when I keep a caterpillar to identify the
adult, wasps emerge from the pupa instead of an adult. "Only an
expert can identify the species of this genus." I expect that
means a microscope is needed.
